I don’t think I’ve ever bonded with someone so instantaneously as I did with my buddy Nick. I met him at my former logistics job and instantly we hit it off. It was like that moment in “Step Brothers” where they become best friends…only it actually happened.
I had the pleasure of working with Nick for about a year. Once it was understood that we were inseparable, It wasn’t just the good times that we had. We had an unbridled respect for each other. I remember how it was my responsibility at work to make sure the queue was cleared each day and Nick would never leave me out to dry. He would stay with me until we were good to go. It was just kismet that we met because at the time of that job, I think we both needed each other. We motivated each other. We pushed each other harder. We were the bash bros of the office.
As I got to know Nick on more personal level I learned that, of course, we’ve had a similar background. A lot of dead-end jobs, a lot of find-yourself years, and still searching for the spot. And all the while, just ripping on the scam of corporate America. It’s one of our favorite topics to discuss when we see each other. Just ripping into the system because the cracks in it are so obvious. It’s always so refreshing having these discussions with him, because we’re always looking for new methods to ‘stick it to the man’. Hopefully one day one of our Kramer schemes will come through.
Not to mention, I’m no drinker, but it seems like every time we get together we open up the tab to Valhalla and drink to the point of sickness. It’s definitely our pastime. I remember one of the times we went out, our bill was so high the bartender was like, “Oh, the next few rounds are on me.” Nick then hastily looked at the bill it was over $600. Split between three of us…on a random Tuesday.
In all seriousness, though, Nick is without a doubt one of my ride-or-die brothers. For a guy I’ve just met not too long ago, it feels like we’ve known each other for a lifetime, and the beauty of it all…we’re just getting started.
