I think it’s fitting that my nickname for Kevin is skeeter. Originally I coined it when his hair was blue in high school, but in present day when analyzing our friendship, it makes sense. Like his Doug counterpart, he’s always there when I need him. Kevin is one of those friends who if you don’t know him he might come off like a hard-ass. But in my opinion, he’s got one of the biggest hearts of all. Always willing to have a good time and be there at a moments notice. Kevin has the integral ingredients of a true friend.
Our paths began in fourth grade in Mrs. Waltons class. Kevin, in typical goober fashion, would wear his Devils shirt every day. We formed a bond that would include play dates and birthday parties that would make us inseparable. But it wouldn’t be until 8th grade that our friendship would be cemented. We were the troublemakers in our English and Math classes giving proper sense to the devil shirt worn years ago. We just didn’t see the value in school. Still don’t. Kevin and I though just loved to make each other laugh through all the monotony. Our friendship would evolve to concert buddies and now horror movie buddies. Whenever there was a great concert we’d ride together. Whenever there’s a horror movie that peaked our interest we’d venture forward. It’s important having friends like that because it helps share those experiences. What’s the point of going to events with someone who will be indifferent? Go with someone you know will love it. That’s Kevin and I.
I’ve been thinking to myself how can I sum up Kevin in a nutshell, where his big heart shines. It was the day of his wedding and I had the distinct privilege of being a groomsman. Tensions were high but he was just looking out his window with a smile. He looked over to me and said, “Remember that time you lost your tooth in fourth grade. You were so excited and we celebrated in the bathroom.” Truth be told ,I didn’t remember that instance. Yet, I’m so moved that Kevin did. It was a precious moment we shared in our childhood that now as adults we could reflect on and smile at. For someone that always preached how big a devil's fan he is, Kevin’s my little angel.
