I’m fortunate to have met this man almost 9 years ago. We formed a bond during our days in the Abercrombie trench. I remember it like it was yesterday. Now years later and we’re entrenched in each others lives. But what makes James Novak special to John Garis? What makes him my would-be big brother?
Well first and foremost, he has had my back since day one. Our relationship started out with him being my equal in employment, but soon thereafter my boss. I could not be more proud. I only knew James for a few months but I could tell it was well-deserved. Once he got the promotion, nothing changed. He never treated me differently, he always treated me as a peer, as a friend, and most importantly as family. The thing is though James has not just been there as a boss. He’s been there as a reference for new employment opportunities, as a moral compass to the struggles I’ve encountered. James has been there more than I could ever ask him for.
If you met James, you’d probably think this man is completely stern and stoic. But I’ve seen his sensitive side several times over. Not to embarrass you, James, but the man even cried to me with concern over my mental illness struggles. That’s a brotherly a bond you cannot break and that, at its core, is love.
James, I just wanted to thank you for guiding me through the hard times of life, being there when I need you and spreading the love. That’s all we can ever ask for from a friend and family member. To be by one’s side, through and thick and thin. James Novak has gone to infinity and beyond for me and for that, he’ll always have a friend in me.
