Now I know what you’re thinking: “These articles are about real people that have impacted your life, and you’re using Homer Simpson?” Well, for the privacy of my friend and own personal Homer J, we’ll be using that pseudonym instead of his real name.

So what is a real life Homer Simpson like? Well, he’s exactly what you would think. Charming, loves to drink, embarks on countless different escapades, and has unbridled loyalty like no one else. Homer is my Everyman.

Homer has been apart of my life for as long as I can remember. There’s literally baby photos of us together with our yellow skin and our parents holding us and smiling. Our friendship has gone through many variations throughout the test of time. What started out as the bonding of Ralph Camden and Ed Norton has morphed into more modern adaptations such as Fred Flintstone and Barney, Homer and Barney, Peter Griffin and Joe Swanson, the list is everlasting. But one thing remains a constant: throughout the generational changes, we’ve always been the best of friends.

The thing about being best friends with Homer is he’s always down to clown. He’s ready for a quest, game for on a drinking binge or a concert, whatever the case may be. He’s the life of the party, and brings that energy with him wherever he goes. Some might call him a negative influence when it comes to drinking but me, I call him the party supplier. Incredibly generous, he’ll always buy the rounds and keep the celebration going for the rest of Springfield. A true leader of the brigade.

And his loyalty holds no bounds. He may bust your balls, troll you endlessly, and make you feel crazy. But at the end of the day he treats you like family, and me like a brother. He’ll drop anything to be there for you. It comes with the territory.

He’s always saying you got to, “pay your dues.” In a way that’s what it’s like being friends with him.  Sure they’ll be so mishaps along the way. But if you want to be family to one of the most authentic and genuine people I have ever met. That’d be Homer. Trust me. It’s worth the dues paying.

Homer, I love traversing Springfield with you everyday. No matter how long we’ve known each other, it’s always a new experience. Because the beautiful thing about Springfield is it has endless possibilities similar to you. Since no one truly knows where it is, you can be the Springfield of the people. The person that oversees us all. With a beer in hand and a smile. I love you, Homer, with all my heart.
