My Godmother Felicia is a strong-willed individual. She has taught me many valuable lessons over the years and supported me throughout just about all of my creative endeavors. That’s what true artists do, though. They support each other to further inspire the uninspired. Ever since I acted in a school play, she was there cheering me on. Even when I didn’t think I was special, she has been candid with me. She has always told me something’s there. She invokes confidence in myself that I never had before. That’s love.

Ever since I was a kid, she has never forgotten about me on my birthday or Christmas. I can’t even say the same about my closest extended family.  As you get older, people tend to not fuss over your birthday and stuff; after all, you’re an adult.

It’s not just her praise that I’ve always appreciated; it’s her background. She is a classically trained actress, and my mom always told me she could have made it big time, but she had to make a choice: love or show business. She chose love. Some might say she made the wrong decision, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Her relationship with my uncle Carmine is clear why she made the right decision. Those two were meant for each other. She showed me one of the greatest lessons of all: that nothing trumps matters of the heart. Not money, not glory, not anything. Love conquers all.

I’m very fortunate to have my Aunt Felicia in my life. She has been such an integral family member growing up—I couldn’t see myself not having her in it. Thank you, Aunt Felicia, for all you do, and God bless. I couldn’t imagine growing up without you.
